Calligraphy in China and Japan has had a long and celebrated history. To create the characters the instrument used is the calligraphy brush. The traditional calligraphy brush is made from bamboo (body) and topped with the hair from a wide variety of animals such as goat, rabbit, wolf or deer. The brush of the calligraphy brush is comprised of more than one type of animal hair to make use of the different stiffness that each hair naturally has.
